Day 16/365: Posole

My mum and I worked on our first recipe for our Mexican cookbook yesterday. We made a traditional Mexican dish: posole, documenting all of the ingredients and cooking instructions as we went along.

Today, for day 16 of my 365 photography project, I photographed some leftovers for the book. I finally remembered that my umbrella could be made into a shoot-through, so I took off the black, set up my flash, and ended up with a nice soft lighting set. It was a great setup for a cloudy day. Here are some shots:

Day 15/365: Orchid

Ello lovelies. So I spent a day 15 of my 365 photography project photographing an orchid plant. Honestly, as much as I photograph plants, I'm terrible, like one of the worst, at keeping plants alive. I really wouldn't say I have a green thumb... at all. But I do find flowers and plants beautiful. I couldn't resist getting this orchid for my mum for her birthday, it's one forked branch was what caught my attention. And I have to admit I did get it with the notion of photographing it. And boy am I glad I did. I used window lighting in these, and opted for a low shutter speed and high ISO to really make the background as white as I could make it. Hope you like the photos:

Bring it on day 16!

This Necklace by Lara Lewis Reminds Me Of...

Me and my Joe's song: "Happily Ever After in Your Eyes" by Ben Harper. It's an amazingly beautiful song.

P.S. A happy birthday shout out to my mum.

Day 14/365: Birthday Cake

Tomorrow is my mum's birthday, so I spent part of today baking (and photographing for my 365 project) a delicious chocolate cake from scratch for her. I used a recipe by Ina Garten, which my mum loves. Try it out yourself for a great chocolate fix.

Tomorrow I get to cook one of my family's favorite dishes for my mum's birthday dinner, posole, a traditional Mexican dish.

Talking about Mexican dishes, I'm excited to start a new Mexican cookbook project with my mum. She is an amazing cook, modest about it, but so amazing! Her food is mouthwatering. And I'm exciting to not only spend time with her while cooking and documenting all her recipe's, but to have them as a keepsake to pass down through generations. So keep on the look-out for cookbook updates!

13/365: Cross Stitching It

I took some photographs of a pair of Mexican handmade rose pillowcases today. This is my favorite shot, a macro shot of the roses.

You can find the pillowcases for sale through my Etsy Shop in their original tint.

Wearable Planter

How amazing is this wearable planter by Colleen Jordan on Etsy.com?

One of only a few available through her Etsy, it's well worth the $55 price tag if you're into green wearables.
